While many are familiar with the TV presenter and her cooking shows, and some have discovered her on social networks where she is one of the most influential women in the Arab world and shares numerous recipes, it is less well known that this self-taught chef and successful entrepreneur is a true humanist activist. The daughter of Palestinian refugees, Manal Al Alem uses her talent and fame to support causes close to her heart, not least the refugee crisis. She mentors Syrian refugee women trying to launch catering businesses. A Goodwill Ambassador for the World Food Programme (WFP), she works to combat hunger through initiatives such as ShareTheMeal, which helps families in Palestine. Her journey, marked by resilience, makes her an inspiring figure and a model of humanitarian commitment.

They are often the first to arrive on the scene in emergency situations. The World Food Program, created in 1961, is a UN humanitarian agency dedicated to fighting hunger worldwide. While one person in eleven goes to bed hungry because of conflict, climate change, disaster or inequality, the WFP’s 23,000 employees help over 100 million people in almost 120 countries, providing vital assistance to affected populations. Since the 2000s, the WFP has been rethinking its action and, alongside emergency food aid, has been developing the concept of food assistance, which aims, through multi-year plans, to provide more sustainable solutions by integrating structural actions. “We provide vital relief in emergency situations and use food aid to build a path to peace, stability and prosperity”.
