Summary of the novel
Southern Lebanon, 2006 to 2010: Georges was born in Lebanon, near the border with Israel, within a loving and close-knit family. He roams the archaeological ruins surrounding his home, which become the playground for the games he shares with his little sister, Joumana. At a very young age, the children witness the destruction of their country and the resurgence of the traumas from the civil war. Despite the post-war hardships, their innocent amusements cautiously resume and protect them.
Beirut, 2019: Georges lives in the Lebanese capital, where he studies political science. A brilliant student, he catches the eye of the stern Joseph Ramayel, who hires him for the university newspaper. The professor oversees the writing of fiction based on real events and seems to be playing a dangerous game in a country still scarred by its memory and history. As the work becomes increasingly delicate, a very particular bond forms between the two men. Georges finds himself drawn into a wild story that will upend the course of his life. What power will the imagination hold in this country where everything seems ready to explode?
