Originally from Harare, Zimbabwe, Nicola Kagoro, known as Chef Cola, grew up with the idea that meat equals wealth, which she believes is a common notion in Africa. Through her research into African culinary traditions and history, she went on to challenge this view, and introduced vegan cooking in Africa while promoting its nutritional and environmental benefits. In 2016, Cheffe Cola founded African Vegan on a Budget, an initiative driven by her mission to inspire individuals to adopt a healthy vegan diet based on a limited budget. She is also very active in the African branch of ProVeg International.
