Chef Grandma Sita is the heart and soul behind the work — a cheerful, wise, and creative cook inspired by the women in her family kitchen — her mother, grandmother, and aunties — who prepared seasonal, homegrown produce from their garden in Galicia (Northwest Spain). She embodies care, resourcefulness, and generosity, seeing food as a story of heritage, love, and respect for the planet. Rooted in Galician culinary tradition yet guided by purpose, she teaches through example: cooking plant-based meals, wasting nothing, and reminding people that good food doesn’t require excess — only knowledge, imagination, and heart.

At her table, everyone feels welcome, and nothing is wasted. Through her cooking, Chef Grandma Sita transforms everyday meals into acts of connection, empowerment, and positive change — proving that even the simplest kitchen can transform lives and communities.

Grandma Sita is a purpose-driven food education initiative founded by Chef Grandma Sita, dedicated to building a zero-waste, plant-based kitchen culture through education, community, and creativity. It helps people see “waste” as untapped potential, turning everyday kitchens into spaces of connection, sustainability, and shared nourishment. Guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals and inspired by the cherished grandmothers who never wasted a crumb, the movement fights food waste, revives lost food knowledge, and makes mindful cooking simple, affordable, and accessible.

Based in Galicia (Spain), the initiative continues to grow with passion, engaging in local and international efforts where communities learn to repurpose bread, rescue vegetables, and rediscover the joy of cooking together across generations and cultures. It’s not just about saving food — it’s about creating a zero-waste kitchen culture that respects the planet, honors traditions, and nourishes the future.
