Nina BASSET

Nina Basset is a leading figure in the British hospitality industry. Together with her late husband, the renowned sommelier Gérard Basset, she co-founded several landmark establishments, including Hotel du Vin, Hotel TerraVina, and Spot in the Woods.

Her career began at an early age when, at just 21 years old, she became the youngest inspector in the history of the AA Hotel and Restaurant Guide. Before the age of 40, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Women in Business, recognizing her outstanding professional career.

Her passion for wine developed through the many journeys she shared with Gérard Basset, visiting vineyards around the world. This passion was also passed on to their son, Romané Basset.

Since 2019, Nina and Romané have worked together to preserve and continue Gérard Basset’s legacy through the Gérard Basset Foundation, which promotes diversity, inclusion, and the development of talent across the wine, restaurant, and hospitality industries. The Foundation awards scholarships, grants, and recognition programs to support the next generation of professionals on an international scale.

Nina Basset is also Co-Founder and Vice President of the United Kingdom Sommelier Academy. In 2022, she was appointed Secretary General of the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale (ASI). Within the Gérard Basset Foundation, she also supports a wide international network of scholars and grant recipients and serves as a mentor to candidates pursuing the Master of Wine and Master Sommelier qualifications.

In 2025, Nina Basset received the prestigious Special Catey Award, recognizing four decades of outstanding contribution to the wine and hospitality industries.
